Kicki Longstocking vs. Anti-Heroes

Kicki Longstocking is back for their sixth season in good ol' WAKA. We were at the top of our game for both kickball and flip cup. The game's highlight was Mr. Brian Bolton's two run homer. I was told that we dominated in flip cup as well. I was busy reffing, but I'll take their word for it. Also, major props go out to my mom for the assist on the sweet neon green shirts. I know how much she loves reading these things. Hi mom. Thanks also go out to the new additions of Kicki: Sara, Angelle and Shelly. I hope you guys are ready to come in second place!

Suck My Kick vs. One Kick Wonders

The game was on Thursday, April 19, 2012.The weather was cloudy and cold. After warming up with a frightening and cramped ride on the blue line to Damen, the One Kick Wonders played a boisterous team with dark green T-shirts and a cute dog with a pink leash as their mascot. The team might have been called "Suck my Kick" and the dog might have been a boxer-foxhound mix. The highlight of the game was when the team mascot (with the pink leash) successfully dodged a kickball mistakenly aimed at her. The game ended with the One Kick Wonders victory (or in some people's opinions, a loss) with a score of 7 to 1 (or arguably, 1 to 7).

Kick in a Box vs. Bender Rehab

Kick in a Box started the season with a nail biter of a game. Nearly every player made it on base at least once. The team demonstrated excellent communication on defense, strategic baserunning and a level-headed sense of calm under stress. After much back-and-forth scoring (with some admirable fielding by their competition which left several runners stranded on base), newcomer Peter Jabbour kicked a walk-off homer in the bottom of the fifth to win the game. There is discussion of changing his name to "MVPete." The final score at the bar was just as close, but not in Kick in a Box's favor.

Post game celebratory PBRs at Nick's

From the files of Bender Rehab

In the annals of history there have been some great rivalries that have lasted the test of time. There is Cubs vs the goat, Jesus vs Santa Claus, and more recently, America's Bender Rehab vs Kick in the Head.

The game itself was fairly uneventful, except for where KitH decided to pull out their sheisty Russian roots and trip our base runner, then claim that he kicked the baseman's foot, thereby interfering with the play, and so preventing yours truly from getting a run, and thus preventing Bender Rehab from winning the game. Sheistiness, I tell you.

It's okay, thought, the real action of the night was at Nick's Beergarden. Somehow they have acquired this beautiful new All-American flip cup table, this would be it.

Anyways, as expected, they tried to pull some of that sheistiness during flip cup too, but it was to no avail; we won flip cup 8-0.

Trashwater Boys vs. Nice Kicks, Wanna Flip?

The Trashwater Boys

For their first time on the field, Nice Kicks, Wanna Flip? put up quite the formidable effort. Being down two runs at the start of the fifth, this rookie team came back to tie it up, forcing the bottom of the inning to be played. NKWF showed particular mastery in the field, as well as strength of leg. Trashwater Boys, however, managed to prevail, despite NNFW's best efforts with a score of 3-2. Not enjoying the taste of defeat, and surely enjoying the taste of beer, NKWF headed, en masse, to Nick's and convincingly destroyed Trashwater Boys at flip cup. It felt good. NKWF is excited to be part of WAKA this season and looks forward to upcoming games, and of course, upcoming flipcup matches.

"1...2...3.... Team F'ing Spirit!!!"

Cemento Cruz AZUL vs. CBR

Thursday was the triumphant return of WAKA kickball. Blue made it back to the field with a new name and a number of new players. Although it was a bit chilly outside and a bit rainy we were ready to take the field. It was time to finally play kickball again. Yay! Unfortunately, it wasn't time for us to win as we played the defending champions, CBR. And boy, did they prove why they are the defending champions. We had some great catches and plays by veterans Evan, Phil, and Taryn. And then some shining moments on the field by the new players Jamie and Brad. But we just couldn't stop CBR from rounding the bases and getting 6 runs. We also just couldn't get ourselves across home plate. We did get one run in, scored by Byronious, but we couldn't trick them enough on the bases to score any more. It was a fun night however. There was a lot of flipcup that happened at the bar afterwards and I believe there may have even been some chugging contests between Jamie and a member of the pink team. Not quite sure on the details of that as the night got a little fuzzy the later it got. But I do remember people saying "I love kickball" as I left the bar so that is always a good sign. We look forward to another fun filled season of kickball and another exciting game next week.
